The Composite exam (642-891) is the quickest way for currently certified CCNP® and CCDP® professionals to obtain recertification. The exam tests skills and knowledge pertaining to the Building Scalable Cisco® Internetworks (BSCI) and Building Cisco® Managed Switched Networks (BCMSN) courses. Composite may be taken to recertify CCNP® and CCDP® certifications; it may also be taken in place of the BSCI and BCMSN exams required for CCNP® and CCDP® certifications. Candidates must successfully pass both routing and switching subsections of the Composite exam to successfully pass the exam.
* FYI, the last day to test for Composite 642-891 is December 31, 2006.

A Note about CCNP® Recertification:
CCNP® certifications are valid for three years. To recertify, pass any 642 exam that is part of the professional level curriculum after 8/18/06, or pass a current CCIE® written exam.
* The second level in general Cisco® Career Certifications is professional-level certifications such as CCNP®, CCSP™, CCDP®, and CCIP™ each falling within a different certification path (or track) for meeting varying career needs. Think of this level as the advanced, or journeyman, level of certification that shows expertise with networking foundations.

Hi Todd,

I’m a newly converted fan of your books, I have two edition of your CCNA books and i must say they are by far the most enjoyable way i have yet to have done to study for my certifications. I used both a CBT based course and two other ccna books, but i found i always ended up returning to yours for the areas i haden’t mastered or needed clarification. Also having learnt your method of subnetting first, i found the others looking both clumsy and inneffective at teaching subnetting so i skipped their method and went straight to their questions which i found too easy to be any challenge having completed your written labs and review questions.

I really do find your occasional encouragements and amusing quotes rather funny and have been known to laugh out loud when studying with your ccna book (which has bemused others around seeing me laugh whilst reading a thoroughly technical book ^^).

Many thanks for your dedicated work and I am anxiously awaiting your ccnp updated books as I am now studying towards it and have more faith in your books then i do in the cisco variety. Although i’m reduced to studying with theirs i will certainly buy yours as soon as they are released to go over thoroughly even once i have my ccnp qualification, just to ensure i have the most current information and tips and tricks available to me.

Big props and big thanks,

Rory Vorster.

Hi Todd,
I have used your book for the CCNA preparation. I have cleared the CCNA with flying colors (982 in INTRO and 950 in ICND) and I owe this to you. I am now interested in doing CCNP
Please do let me know which of your books should I refer to for preparing the CCNP. If possible, please email me at paras211@gmail.com

Thank you for writing.
As of today, 06/10/07, I have finished my latest book in the CCNA series. It was the toughest book I have ever written is about twice the size of my last book. It certainly does cover some CCNP material, inluding wireless and IPv6, but the new CCNA test which comes out around August 1st is suppose to be seriously hard. If you have not finished your CCNA test, I encourage you to quickly do so!
I won’t have any CCNP books out this year, but do plan on having some CCNP study books out in the first quarter of 2008.
Writing books has become harder and harder, so I have to plan, study and write for much longer periods of time.
Good luck with your certs.
Cheers!

There are many good books out there for CCNP material, but the money you spend up front for personal training is well spent. I took a bootcamp course from Todd personally, and murdered my CCNA test. I took the class at GlobalNet Training, and it only took a week to learn the material. The CCNP class was every bit as good – you can take one from GlobalNet and save yourself some time, not to mention you could net a job with a much higher compensation cap with a CCNP. If you’ve got the CCNA nasty beaten, then I recommend doing what I did – sign up for one of the GlobalNet CCNP bootcamps, crank it out, and apply for a job with better pay.

Thanks again, Todd!

Todd,

I credit you as the secret of my success. I have used all of your books to obtain my CCNP. I read your materials not only to obtain certifications, but to apply the knowledge on the job. I have two questions:

1) Are you working on a book for 642-825(ISCW) and 642-845(ONT)? I know they haven’t been released by Cisco yet, but I always buy your books first. I have checked the Sybex site and have seen nothing. If you are working on it or know of a release date, I would appreciate it.

2) I am looking at the CCSP. And I don’t see any books for the following courses:
A) 642-552
B) 642-503
C) 642-522
D) 642-533
Any ideas?

I really appreciate the time and effort you have put into these.
Thanks,
Val

First, Val, I am so busy just trying to stay up with the current Cisco CCNA objectives that it is unlikely that I will be writing anything more advanced this year. I do have course material at GlobalNet Training that I write, but I do not publish that material – it is only used as instructor led training.

Mahboob, thank you for your comments. I spent the last year updating my book, which is why my 5th edition is so out of date…I haven’t updated it in almost two years! However, you’ll find my new 640-802 book chocked full of all new information, from introduction to advanced. It’s the Cisco CCNA encyclopedia! Check it out, I think it will provide you with what you were looking for.

Cheers!

Hi, Jichi, thanks for writing. I suppose that Cisco will come out with some titles in that area, but I couldn’t tell you when.

I do write books for those, but only coursware to use in my classes at GlobalNet Training.

And, there won’t be any simulator any time soon that can help you with anything other then CCNA (regardless of what the marketing machines may tell you).

Cheers!

Hi Todd,

I am going to be deployed for a while and I am looking to get CCNP certified overseas. I don’t know if I will have internet available to me, do you have any recomendations on what books to take and if there is any software that would simulate what I need to get certified? (I am taking a laptop) I am already a CCNA and your book really helped me because it was alot easier to understand than the Cisco Press books. Any advice would help.

Hello Todd,

I passed the CCNA exam.I used your book CCNA Sybex 5th Edition. A great book to
prepare for CCNA. I would recommend this book for any CCNA aspirant. Keep up with your good work. I am starting to prepare for CCNP, do you any titles for CCNP especially for the composite 642-892. Also please advice if it’s better to take one exam at a time or take the composite and then the remaining two exams.

Appreciate your help.

Thank you,

So, if you’re looking for self study material, you’ll have to search amazon or cisco for other published titles.

Good luck.

Well, some people like the Cisco Press book, and some people like my CCNA Study Guide. Some people buy both, and I always think that is it good to read more then one authors work.

Remember, regardless if you buy my book or Cisco’s book, you will have a hard time passing if you don’t also get some hands-on experience.

Hi Todd,

I’m self studying and planning to purchase a Cisco kit . Could you please recommend equipment that would remain useful through the CCNA and CCNP. I have a budget of $1000. I’m using your CCNA book and have found it by far the most readable text out there.

What is the difference between G-703 and V 35?

V-35 is a balanced connectivity provided with Winchester type connector. It has 34 pins, DTE type connector terminated with end equipment, whereas G – 703, is an unbalanced co-axial cable with BNC connector (75 ohms)which is terminated with end equipment.

more details are available on the seperate individual interfaces on the internet.

Tood, I’d like to let you know I’ve been studying your CCNA book for about ten weeks, and I have some problems with it.

Several of the tests have wrong answers or missing exhibits, which make it impossible to know a real score. When I took the actual CCNA exam last week, I failed, mainly because some of the questions I missed were not covered in your book. Among them were ..’how do you find the mac address of a host?’.. Some important router commands are not mentioned.

I also have a big problem with Lasalle Training, which took my $2000 for 7 Saturday sessions, and then left me without any kind of support for questions. They have ‘Transcender’ sample exams, which have more errors and irrelevent (ISDN) questions than your book does, so naturally I feel they aren’t too concerned about their success rate.

So I have spent and wasted a lot of time and money on this, without much assistance from Cisco, Lasalle, or you.

I tried the Cisco website, as I was directed, and found that it is inaccessible without a password. I have asked four times, but got nowhere. Each time they sent a stock email explaining that someone will contact me. No one has yet.

So I read the glowing accounts of success here, and I can’t help but feel that you only allow positive feedback to be shown, while there are many problems with your book and a lack of support by vendors.

Lasalle is well aware of my dissatisfaction; I will also let others know how disappointed I am with Todd Lammle, too.
