Project: Large, outdoor Cisco® Wireless Mesh Network integration with the Cisco® 3200 Mobile Access Router for fortune 50 company

The Cisco® wireless mesh network is composed of multiple devices all providing a robust and adaptive platform which can be utilized in nearly any environment. The primary devices and their functions which make up the system are:

1522 Outdoor hardened access points

  • Sealed, no moving parts, heat sink case great for brutal environments
  • Multiple antennas allow for client access and wireless backhaul (link to other AP’s), also includes support for MIMO (multiple input-multiple output) and future support of new standards
  • Supports 802.11a/b/g/n
  • 36Mbps backhaul link to primary (root AP) access point
  • Security provided through configuration and management by Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) and Wireless Control System (WCS)

Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) 2100, 4400 and router integrated models

  • Provides central management of between 1 and 100 AP’s (per WLC)
  • Gathers information from AP’s to mange RF power output
  • Redundancy of the network provided by WLC. If an AP should fail the WLC can re-adjust power to surrounding APs and fill-in the hole
  • Automatically routes and heals network in the instance of failure through the use of Adaptive Wireless Path Protocol (AWPP)
  • Gathers data for use in tracking devices and clients on the network (can be augmented with the used of the 2700 Location appliance)
  • Multiple WLCs can be managed and controlled through a single web interface called Wireless control system (WCS)
  • Wireless Control System (WCS)
  • Provides single easy to navigate management of the network
  • Allows for drawing of any site to be imported and network layout for placement and visual representation of the networks coverage.
  • Provides detection alerts for rouge wireless devices, and intrusion prevention (IPS)
  • Easy deployment of policies and security settings to the entire network from one location
  • With location tracking can depict the location of a client of device in real time

Cisco® 3200 Mobile Access Router (MAR)

  • Robust outdoor device sealed, no moving parts heat sink case for all uses
  • Multiple wireless radios for use in different networks (802.11, cellular and police and military frequencies)
  • Provides full routing capabilities to a mobile platform, allows a truck or car to have a network of devices and a single or multiple connections out to other networks
  • Automatically switches to an external network with the best signal
  • Provides seamless swapping of networks and no dropped connections through the use of Mobile IP routing
