Hi, well, that is a pretty broad question.
I am using 12.4 on all my routers now because that is what the new CCNA and CCNP exam objectives are using.
However, what you use depends on the type of router you have.
Cheers!

You can take the 640-801 test until November...
Two weeks of study will not cut it. The current exam is very hard...you need months of study and practice on networks.
If you have no equipment, then look at routersim.com for a simulator which will help you a lot....
However, unless you are studying 10 hours a day, with intensity, you cannot pass the test in two weeks time...
you need more hands-on time, real network expereince and lots and lots of study.
Good luck!

Shilpi, thanks for writing. You seem to be studying hard and very much! That is fantastic.
I recommend that you take the 640-801 exam, which is available until November of 2007.
My new 6th edition covers everything that you will see in the 640-801 exam...I made sure and cover everything and then some.
cheers!

Hello.
Will a 2600 and 3600 router be sufficient for a 12.4 IOS version?
I'd like to take advantage of the (config)#do show run command.
where can i download this from? www.cisco.com?
Thanks

If you have a CCO account then you can download it from the website, but you have to hard a product that is currently under a smartnet contract. Yes a 2600 and 3600 will run 12.4 for everything you would need for the CCNA test. When you get a little more advanced on the 12.4 code you will need to upgrade hardware though.

I'm considering getting a kit from ciscokits.com. Their CCNA kits do not contain IOS version 12.4 but earlier versions. I asked them about this and they said that I do not need IOS version 12.4 in order to pass the CCNA exam. Please tell me the earliest version that I need. I believe you (Lammle) stated 12.4 is being used in the exam. What impact will practicing on 12.0 or 12.3 have on test? I believe that I will have to manually turn on "ip classless" and one or two other commands.

as long as the IOS is 12.x you'll be fine.
However, please do a price comparsion with ebay on the model of routers and switches you are getting from them.
2500 routers are only around $10-15 on ebay. 2600's are slightly higher.
And you can't get anything less than a 2950 switch. 2960's are better, but not necassary.
Cheers!

TL is right.
Do your research on what DRAM/Flash they have, the last thing you need to buy routers find out that they can run the IOS you need.
If you can get 2620XM's or 3640's, you will be good.
