 Why isn't the first vlsm subnet 192.16.10.0?:

The first subnet could have started off with .0, why didn't Todd start it off with .0 in this example? I don't know. My best guess is that he was using an example of how to configure VLSM on a router that does not have subnet zero enabled?
Most if not all of the current IOS Routers have subnet zero enabled by default. When subnet zero is enabled it allows you to use the .0 subnet as your first available subnet. If subnet zero is not enabled, you can not use .0 as the first available network.
The good thing here is for you to know that you are not going CRAZY!
As long as subnet zero is enabled you would be able to use .0 as the first VLSM network.
Good Luck!

You don't have to start at any subnet. You can use any avialable subnet. It just felt good to start at eight...sure, I could have started at zero, I wanted to show you can start wherever you feel, as long as they do not overlap.
Cheers!
Todd
