There is a severe bug with the Virtual lab platinum edition. Any time you try to save the lab environment and close the program, the file is completely useless. All one needs to try is to open up the "Standard Labs.rsm" file, make a change, and then save/exit the program. When you reopen the program, and reload the .rsm file, the lab space is COMPLETELY BLANK. Inspection of the .rsm file in a text editor shows that everything is gone as well....

I've tried this on two different windows XP systems with the same results. I'm really disappointed in this product - and right now I'm not sure why I paid extra for it. It's totally unacceptable to expect for one to go through the entire book's lab without ever saving and exiting the program.

What's going on? Didn't anyone test this program?

Hi, I wrote the labs for this product, but I did not program it nor do I work on it. The product is owned in whole by Sybex.

That said, you need to contact Sybex tech support for an update. I am sure they have one.

I am sorry for your issues and understand your frustration.

If you do not get resolution from Sybex, please contact me so I can help you further.

Cheers!

Talked to Sybex support yesterday - the guy said I was the second person to call with that issue that day. He couldn't find any resolution, and suggested that I email routersim. Have had an email back asking for more info, but no solution as of yet....

Am researching lab in the meantime......

On a related note, I'd like to recommend that you work with whoever makes the test program on the CD as well - there are a number of chapter questions that have console output listed in the book, but are missing from the question in the test program.

While you may not write these, it is obviously a big part of the "added value" of this kit. If they look bad, you look bad...

write to technicalsupport@routersim.com

Also, the CD bonus question information can be found in the errata at sybex.com.

Cheers!
