For the Written lab 3.3 number of hosts in the line 63.24.89.21/18 should be 2^14-2=16384-2=16382;)

Yes, that is correct. The correct answer shows in the written lab answers for 3.2 right about it. Doh!

On page 169, "Answers to Written Lab 3.3" shouldn't the header for the last column read "Number of Hosts per Subnet" rather than just "Number of Hosts?" Otherwise, the calculation would be (2x-2) times the (number of subnets), right?

Written lab 3.3 provides specific host addresses and from those addreses you are suppose to find the subnet, broadcast address, valid host range and lastly, how many hosts are in that subnet.
You can write it either way, but the answer will be the same.
also, I didn't have alot of room in the header, so saying "number of hosts" was easier.
