Consoling COM1 in Mac OS X

In Chapter 1 of the 640-802 book, you mentioned about connecting to the console port of the Router using a rolled cable and Hyperterminal via COM1. How do you implement this in Mac OS X? Do I need an additional RJ45-to-DB9 adapter instead of plugging it in to the ethernet port of my laptop?

(I have a Cisco 2501 Router)

You need to buy a USB to Com cable from any computer store. Just make sure they have the OSX drivers.

For what its worth, only the Keyspan USB adapters have been found to work with OSX in our company. They work well, and we use Z-Term for a console app. Its very nice.

Okay, well that solves my problem.
I must of had a keyspan with my MAC.
I had my 17" Macbook Pro stolen about 6 weeks ago when I was working in SF. That sucked!
However, I got my homeowners insurance to buy me a new one. I actually received enough money to buy a better mac and some new stuff to go with it (like a back up drive)
I just lost a lot of work I never backed up and reinstalling everything is a bitch.
I back up every day now.
I still am upset about it because someone probably sold it for $50 worth of crack.
Anyway's, thanks for this post because I couldn't get anything to work and I thought it was just me!

The advice in this thread seems straight forward but I'm still confused.

I just bought a Cisco 801 router (http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/6584/imgvdshfr013jx1.jpg) and am confused how to connect to the console port, which I believe is what I want to be doing. I have a Mac PowerBook so went looking for a USB to RJ-45 cable but the guy at my local computer shop said you don't get this sort of cable.

Now I'm not sure if that's what this thread is actually suggesting.

The Cisco documentation (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/access/800/801/hardware/quick/guide/800QSG.html#wp35579) mentions a DB-9 to RJ-45 cable and a DB-25 to RJ-45 cable.

Some flame free advice would really be appreciated.
