I believe you must have Cisco's CCENT/CCNA Official Exam Certification Guide for preparation and additionally other study materials such as Todd's CCNA study guide.

Yea get what ^^ccna.studyguide said and go through EVERYTHING and make sure that you know it.

I can tell you that you don't absolutely need the Cisco Press cerification guides. Yes they have good material in them, but they don't always help point you in the right direction. Todd's CCNA study guide 6th edition from Sybex will help you cut through the mountains of information and help you to understand the concepts.
Not to say that you aren't going to have to study. I don't mean that at all, there is a lot to cover and you have to dedicate the time to doing that. With the right material and time you can do, I have no doubt!

I would not use them as a study guide but as a reference. Many times I refer to them if I need more detail on a subject but not to read cover to cover. ;-)

I agree as well. Beyond the information, Todd's book learns you the concepts in a way that has it hardwired in your brain. It is the only book, no, make that the only written material I used.
Here's my recipe:
Learn chapters 1 to 3 to the point you can dream them. Next, do the same with ch.4 and 5. Go on by just reading the remaining chapters. Go back to chapter 6 and learn them chapter by chapter. All through, do the tests provided on the CD and in general repeat, repeat, repeat until your head hurts.
Worked for me.

For CCNA, I think it is important that you know, generally, what it is, but not every minute detail!
