Hello Everyone,

I purchased the 14 Module DVD series, but it only plays in my XBox. Does anyone know how to get the DVD's to play on a Laptop? I really need to be able to play these videos on Windows Media Player or Real Player.

They won't play with either media players mate.
You could try VLC, that will play everything. That or power DVD.

I'm really not interested in purchasing a converter because that would cost more money that I don't have. I have tried PowerDVD and that starts to play but then freezes, so that does'nt work either. I'm beyond fustrated that I spent alot of money for 14 DVDs that don't play in a DVD player!! Thanks alot... you got me!

Andre, I sent your email to the fulfillment company and they already contacted you about this issue.
My DVD's have had no issues playing in any player, on a computer, or DVD player.
Please continue to discuses your issue with the fulfillment center that is trying to help you.

Thanks for the reply Todd, I've really enjoyed watching your DVD's on my Xbox, and your a great teacher... but the DVDs are not playing on my CPU. Your representatives suggested I download a codec, but did not specifiy which one. I also downloaded an all- in- one, but still no luck getting these to play. I have not had any success with PowerDVD either. If your familiar with the needed codec please let me know. I'm very mobile and need to watch your DVDs on my laptop.

Thanks

Ok, I know this sounds crazy, but as a former IT guy who has helped people power up their computers and monitors to fix their, "My computer isn't working" issues, it just has to be asked:

Are you sure the drive in your laptop is a DVD drive and not just a CD drive?

Or, another question, do other DVDs play in your laptop? Maybe it's a bad drive.

:)

Your right that does sound crazy....but thanks for trying to help. Yes, I can play other DVDs on my laptop. It's just these CCNA DVDs that don't work. I've even tried it with PowerDVD which really has me confused. The DVDs come with a warning that it might not play in your laptop, but don't tell you what codec you need to make it play. It's really fustrating...I'm running window XP so that may be a compatibility issue there. However someone should still know what codec it takes to run. Am i the only student having this problem, or am I the only one that purchased the DVDs? :(

I'm not familiar with a specific codec, but did you look around in here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/plugins.aspx#DVDDecoder

or here:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=dvd+codec+for+laptops&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=

Good luck. Sorry I can't be of much more help.

It's great that people are providing the suggestions you are asking for.
The fulfillment center will get this fixed, I promise. I'll call them on Monday....I just got home from teaching last week in Dallas and I work about 18 hours a day so I didn't have time to work on this with you.

What other players have you tried?
I like the Windows Total Video Player, and it's free. Just a thought.

Cheers!

Hi Todd and others
I too had the same issue, playing the videos and the audio, which had been provided with the 640802 book, on my laptop. What, I did was that, I downloaded Any Video Converter from http://www.download.com and transformed the video from the format into the CD to MPEG II format. It then started playing fully, in the windows media player vr9 on my XP. The only downfall is that, the resolution of the video went down a bit, but that was no problem at all.

Thanks

Milan

The DVD's and Audios on the book were produced by Sybex, not be me, so that is a different issue. If you have problems with anything Sybex related, you need to send them an email.
I am glad you got it working though!!
Those are just preview copies of some videos and audios I did, and not even demo's of my real audio's and DVD's, but they are still informative.

Hi Todd
In my personal opinion, your book for the CCNA 640802 is more than enough. The video or audio is not needed at all. I think that if any body reads the book thoroughly, it will be more than enough. The audio or the videos is just one more addition of the same thing.

I downloaded Windows Media Player 11....seems to be working good so far, thank God!! I really need to study for the CCNA and this was killing me. Have not discovered the issue with the older versions, but thought I would reply with a solution. Thanks for the help and suggestions everyone.

Todd,
Do you think your 14 Module series provides enough enformation to pass the test.

Thanks,

Actually, I think you should come to my class! :)

I did a good job on that series, and between that, my Sybex book, and lots and lots of hands-on, yes.

Cheers!

Oh by the way...Im sitting here with two 1841s, a 2600, and a 3550. Do you think this is a decent test set up for hands on. If not can you please suggest a better setup.

Thanks Again

I know you probably don't want to go to the trouble, but if you can download the free trial, fully functional, DVDFab to a computer that the DVD's -will- play in, you could copy the DVD's to hard disk in a format that maybe your laptop could work with.

http://www.dvdfab.com/

Good luck.
