what is the difference between
1) 2 routers connected using cross-over cable
and
2) 2 routers connected using serial cable

--------------------------------------------------------------

also what is the difference between serial cable(DCE) and serial cable(DTE)

i know that DCE is for up[link and DTE is for downlink......

but how the other router will be able to communicate back if it has a DTE end
---------------------------------------------------------------

do serial ports (on a router) for DCE and DTE are different or it is the canle ends that make the difference?

Dce side wil give clock rate to DTE end router
example
int s0/0
clock rate 64000

and u can check which end is dte and which is dce by

sh controller s0/0
