Do I really need the no how on SDM to pass the exam

You should be familiar with SDM to take the CCNA. You don't need to know it back to front, but it's really intuitive anyway, and not a difficult topic. If you can do something with the CLI, you would easily know how to do the same with SDM, so don't worry too much about it. Try out the demo to get a feel for it.

I'am preparing for ccna, I started sybex and I wanted to know to practise hands on lab ,do I need to buy a router,If I have to,then which series routers should I buy.Is it ok if I get just one router???????

You would need at most thre routers (2610xm or better) and two (three is awesome) switches (layer two).

Most people for the CCNA use sims, as spending the required amount of money is not possible.
