Table 5.5 states that the field "local interface" is the receiving port and the "port id" is the neighbors device's port. However, the output from the Router Sim Network Visualizer connected to RouterA is giving me the reverse answer. It shows under the Device ID the 2950 switch and listed under the local interface is Fas 0/9 and port id as Fas 0/0. Since the Router doesn't have Fas 0/9, is the book or simulator correct?

Hi,
I noticed the same. The book says 'Local Interface' is the interface you are receiving the cdp packet, however when in the sinmulator i enter sh cdp nei on the 2811 router A, i get on the column 'Local Interface' two s0/0. The columns 'Local interface' and 'Port ID' seem to be switched.
Is this a simulator bug or is the book mistaken?

Thanks,

Marco

The book is correct. I have a 2611 router connected to a 2900XL switch. E 0/0 of the router to E0/1 of the switch. The <sh cdp nei> command nets the same results described in table 5.5. I hope the attachment makes it. The attachment is a copy of the display I am referring to.
