Hello,
the Cisco Feature Navigator <http://www.cisco.com/go/cfn> is a good starting point.
But I don't know which IOS versions you can download if you are not registered with Cisco.

you can run any IOS that your hardware and memory will hold.

However, you need a Cisco login to be able to download software.

Pretty simple to get, really. Just buy some equipment, get service on it, and you can get a login. It's not free.

the 1900 and 2900 switches are not good enough any more. The routers will route, but the switches just won't do the commands you need.

you can use a router simulator at routersim.com, or look on ebay for more stuff.

Good luck!

I'm pretty positive that all of the equipment that you listed is EOL (end of life) , and that Cisco stopped support on them. Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't the only way to get updated IOS versions is to have an account with Cisco, as they aren't open source or freely available. At least, I know I haven't found anywhere on cisco.com that doesn't require more than low level access to download IOS's.

dbeare, yes all the equipment is EOL and you can't buy it from Cisco, but you can buy it from ebay cheap and the routers still route, and although those switches, switch, they don't run the IOS needed to provide any purpose.

you want to buy 1841 router, or 2800 series and 2960 switches or 3560's if you are going past the CCNA

You cannot get the IOS without a service contract from Cisco.

Yeah, i've found that the 1900 and 2900 series switches are completely useless for the new CCNA. I've been looking around for 2950's, and will probably be purchasing one soon. It's not too critical, at least that i've found, for the CCNA, but I know I will need a few, and probably some 2960 or 3560's for the CCNP. As far as routers, i've had no problems on the CCNA with my 2610 and 2611, but I do plan on upgrading to the 2800 series once I start working on my CCNP.

the 2500 series routed was outdated from cisco, so you will not be able to download any ios image for them, so better keep old ios or buy a bit later one
