Hi All
I had been practicing the redistribution between EIGRP and RIP for the last few days on PT5.2 simulator. I did not do any fancy configuration, but just followed the exact copy of Todd’s configuration in his book. Initially, I had not faced any problem, but lately I am facing some problems, for which I could not find the point where I screwed up.

I am giving the sh run results for the three routers, where I am facing the problem. The routers are arranged as follows. EIGRP RIP EIGRP

Thanks and Regards

HI
While practicing the redistribution between EIGRP and RIP I came across some peculiar problems.

I had also kept in mind Fuzz's suggestion where he had mentioned that in real life not to preferably keep two routing protocols as it would be a pressure on the router.

Now, I had 5 routers, 1 2 3 4 and 5 all arranged in a line like a train. I had kept router 4 running RIPv2 only. And as suggested by Anurag and also as per Todd's book, I had placed the redistribution thing on router 3 and 5.

In my first stance, I had initialized RIPv2 on all the other routers and promptly all the ip routes showed up on all the routers and I can ping from anywhere to anywhere.

I then wanted to know, whether the redistributing is working or not, and hence the problem started. I removed the RIP routing protocol from router 1 and the other networks coming from routing 4 and I could not ping the router 4 and 5 though I could see it in the routing table of 1 as EX route with ad 170

I was under the impression that for redistribution, other routers need not run the same routing protocol as that of the nucleus router.

So, as per my understanding, running two routing protocols on the same router defeats the purpose of the redistribution factor.

What I am missing in this point? Please suggest.

Thanks
