Hi
question asks what command deletes contents of nvram on a router, answer is erase start.
This only deletes startup config. how about other files in nvram. What is wrong with erase nvram?

erase nvram is not a valid CLI command. erase start does erase everything in NVRAM, as you are prompted with the following after typing 'erase start':
Erasing the nvram filesystem will remove all configuration files!
Continue? [confirm][enter]
Does that help?

erase startup-config is the typical "CCNA objective" command for erasing a router or switch back to factory defaults.
erase nvram is invalid
however, delete nvram: is valid but seldom used.
If you type "delete nvram:?" you'll see all the files you can screw up...err...play with in nvram....I wouldn't mess with them though...at least not on your router...
Cheers!

I'm using a dynamips to simulate a 2600 using the following image:
2600 Software (C2691-ADVENTERPRISEK9-M), Version 12.3(24), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc4)
which is an official ios release. Thanks for your feedback anyway.

the ios you are using is allowing that command. None of my routers let me use it, but I do think I have seen it before. Use the question mark with it and see what it provides. Does it give you an error when you use it at all?

Hello! I have an old version of the sybex lab simulator.
It only allows me to set user mode passwords by
1. (config)# password aux
2. (config)# login
Isn't this the wrong sequence?
Thanks!

no, you have to enter the password before enabling the login process.
I believe this started wtih version 12.0
For once, that old sim is correct.
I'd find packet tracer if you can.
