Mr. Lammle refers to these figures in order to show us Frame Relay is cheaper than other technologies.

Figure 14.14 shows a router conected to 3 remote routers through Leased Lines, which would be more expensive.

Figure 14.15 shows a router connected to a Frame Relay cloud that is connected to 3 remote routers, which would be cheaper.

The question is: Don't I have to pay the 3 connections from my remote routers to the Frame Relay Cloud as the same way I would pay the 3 leased lines in Figure 14.14 example?

To get connectivity between all four routers using leased lines (full mesh), you would need a total of 6 lines. Using Frame Relay, you can have one line per router connected to a frame relay switch, and use 6 virtual circuits to complete the full mesh topology.
