Hi Todd and others

I have a basic question regarding the configuration of various interfaces with IPv6 address. In Todd's 640802 book on page 756, it is shown how to configure the serial interfaces of Corp router with IPv6.

There the various serial interfaces are configured with 2001:db8:3c4d:11::64/ eui-64

I can understand the part, where it is mentioned about the use of auto padding by using eui-64

I would like to know, how I created the "2001:db8:3c4d:11::64" part of the address.

Thanks and regards

This would be from an ISP as it is a global address range.

Hi
I can understand the fact that the address is a global address from the 2001:db8:3c4d:11::64 part of the address, which signifies that it is a global address.

My confusion lies in the rest part of the address 2001:db8:3c4d:11::64. How, do I create this part of the address?

Thanks and regards................

2001:db8:3c4d:11:: /64 is the global address, assigned in it's entirety by the ISP. The 64 at the end is not a host address, it's supposed to show a 64 bit mask (/64).

In other words, you don't create this part of the address, but in a lab just make it up. Just be sure to keep it the same for all hosts on that segment.
