Hi All,

I have bought Todds new CCNA 640-802 book & was wondering what are the best chapters to study for the CCENT/ICND1 Exam.

Cheers

I also have purchased the book and am quite impressed by the amount of information contained in it. I am overwhelmed in fact... so like the original poster I was wondering what chapters would be pertinent for the CCENT test and what chapters would be needed for the second test?

Or does one go thru the entire tome and hope to remember it all?

By working through the cisco syllabus, I have come up with the following for split using the 802 book:

ICND1

Chapters 1 - 6 entirely, understand how eigrp and ospf works from chapter 7, all of chapter 8, security threats of chapter 10 (not access lists), chapters 11 & 12 entirely, and up to, but not including, Frame Relay in chapter 14.

ICND2

Chapters 7 & 9 entirely, ACLs from chapter 10, chapter 13 entirely and Frame Relay onwards from chapter 14.

I need to correct your last post.

ICND1:
Chapters 1-6, but NOT chapter 7. (EIGRP and OSPF are not in ICND1)
Chapter 8, but not chapter 9 (VLANS)
The beginning of chapter 10, but not ACL's
The beginning of chapter 11, but no configuration of NAT
ALL of chapter 12!
Skim chapter 14...understand what PPP and Frame is, but that's it, not too in-depth and no configuation of WAN's.

ICND2: everything in the book

Sound better? :)

Thanks Todd, that's helped me out too.

I'm about to take my ICND1 in a week, with ICND2 a month later. I tried to split the book myself using the information from Cisco ICND1 syllabus (http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/current_exams/640-822.html), but when it was a bit hazy, I felt it was better to learn more rather than less. A couple of things still concern me though.

Implement and verify WAN links

Describe different methods for connecting to a WAN
Configure and verify a basic WAN serial connection

Implement an IP addressing scheme and IP services to meet network requirements for a small branch office

Enable NAT for a small network with a single ISP and connection using SDM and verify operation using CLI and ping

Will the parts listed give enough information to cover these two points?

Many thanks

Don't worry about SDM right now, and just read up to the configuration part of NAT.
Same with WAN. Understand that basics, but understand the difference between PPP and HDLC and that you can't have HDLC on one end and PPP on the other end and expect it to work.
Also, you need to carefully read the Wireless section. Other than the Cisco controllers and Mesh, you need to know everything else. Wireless is a huge objectives in the ICND1 objectives/exam.
Good luck.
Cheers!

Using the info above I managed to pass the ICND1 exam with 910. I thought I had failed as I didn't read too in-depth on "The WAN Objectives".
I had to make educated guesses on those. Still, I was comfortable with the rest, and I think I got all the sims right. ICND2 here I come!

Please be careful on what you put in your post.
You can be decertified.
I will edit your post to make it correct.
Congrats again!
