Hi,

Just a quick question on the SDM. I got to the end of chapter 4 and seen the SDM interface. I have an 1841 router that I picked up second hand. I haven't reinstalled the IOS on yet so I'm not sure if this is due to deeper configuration that I am not aware of.

I downloaded and installed the SDM 2.5.1 I believe and installed it on the PC.
I opened up the web browser and connected in. Now in the book there are lots of menu's and options but on my interface there is only a small amount of
options, no access-list configs etc. Is this to do with my model of router, the package thats installed on the router or some other configuration?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,
you mean the IOS when you are writing about "the package"?

You can check the feature set of your IOS at this Cisco site: <http://www.cisco.com/go/cfn/>

Hi,

It seems your router has c1841-ipbase-mz.124 IOS. You require c1841-advipservicesk9-mz.124 or c1841-advsecurityk9-mz.124. IPBASE IOS doesn't have security features.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply.

I got c1841-spservicesk9-mz.123-11.T10.bin

Are the other files available to download from cisco from a standard cisco account?

I installed c1841-advipservicesk9-mz.124 but it didn't make any difference.
I only noticed the "Express" header last night. Its "Cisco SDM Express". Is this a light version of SDM?

Here are some screenshots.

I presume this version isn't covered in the exam?

Download the latest full SDM version.

although, for the CCNA objectives the SDM Express will work for you as well.

Cheers!

There was no indicitation on the website that it was a limited/express edition, its just had SDM_V25. I'm gonna give the demo a blast as I want to try and see its full capabilities (not sure it will work though).

Thanks.

Hello Logic,

When did you took the screenshots, before or after the IOS upgrade? If it's after the IOS upgrade it seems you failed to upgarde the IOS because the screenshots are displaying the IOS version as 12.3(11)T10.

Secondly, it seems that your router doesn't have a serial interface, this could also be one of the reason why you are not able to go beyond SDM express.

By default Cisco SDM Express is executed automatically if it finds that the router is set to factory default (or partially configured). After successfully completing the express setup one can see/configure the advanced options (as per book). If router doesn't have a serial interface then SDM Express is executed even after successfully completing the initial setup and one cannot access advance configurations like Firewall etc. ( I found this after removing the serial interface from my router and I was not able to go beyond SDM Express. I am using SDM ver 2.41)

Did you tried accessing the router via SDM installed on your PC?
