I understand from reading some other posts and Googling that Todd does not have a book specifically for 640-816 as he does for 640-822. I recently passed the CCENT the first try in large part due to Todd's book. I also understand that there may be a way to use the latest 640-802 textbook and focus on certain areas to prepare for the 2nd test (640-816). Does anyone know if the comprehensive book (much more up to date I see) offers some indication of how to focus more for the 640-822 exam? If so, this is a must for me to obtain. I really like the approach and presentation. I have 20+ years experience in programming various languages, but those jobs are getting harder to find and harder to keep once obtained, thanks to off-shoring and best-shoring that seem to be encouraged and rewarded by our own government. I know there are some parts of Networking that can be outsourced, but it is harder to offshore and there are some aspects that still require hands-on. With programming, it is just the opposite. Before being laid off from my last company, they offshored all development and support to Europe! All they have to do is write the code and send it on. I get furious just thinking about it. Sorry... :)
Thanks much!

I am in Europe (UK), believe me it is happening here. All the NOC jobs are being offshored. Networking is not much different if you are just starting out. The companies i want to work for only take CCIE skills/knowledge in the UK.

Anyhow back on track, try this.

Well - thank you for the information. It is disheartening to hear about the job situation there being similar. I wonder if I have been wasting my time after all. Since my forte is programming, and all areas of IT are being offshored, perhaps I should have been seeking my .Net and MCTS certifications instead of trying to break into a new field. At least I have more experience in programming and support. Learning a new language is easy. It is the many years of experience in dealing with projects, support, the SDLC, programming in general, and internal/external customers that is important. But too many inexperienced interviewers do not understand that. Add the fact that some companies have a brilliant policy of letting HR filter resumes first (a really STUPID idea), and some hiring managers may not even see your resume. It seems like IT in general is just being gutted and given to all the 3rd world countries. 'Brilliant strategy' he says sarcastically.

I guess so, but good exp workers will always find work. Sometimes it is more who you know to get the really good jobs. I pride my social networking skills along side my Cisco networking skills, get those two right and you are golden.

Hello everyone!

I actually just got my CCENT as well (950 out of 1000!) and I have the same question regarding the usage of Todd's 640-802 book to pass the 640-816.

We all know he job market sucks out there, but I personally don't care. I like networking a lot, and I want to do this no matter what.

Thanks!
