What is meant by block size?

The question says it all. I've just started with subnetting, but I'm not getting the exact picture of what block size means.

Hey! Thanks a lot for the effort you put in there. I finished with subnetting just recently. I'm practising few questions on that. I had got a grip on the basics after I went through subnetting 4 times :D

Is this considered doing this in your head or is there a shorter version?
As if they have a question on the exam it will be 3 different subnet addresses
with somethings missing and you may have to figure out what is wrong and what is the right address or bla bla bla? Will they allow multiple choice on the simulator labs or just fill in the blank? Thank you
