Get my 7th edition, they just updated the exam in April, and they won't come out with the 650-803 until the end of 2012 at earliest.
They haven't even started the blueprint on the new objectives.

yeah Todd i might as well... 650-803????? wow ok i wonder whats going to be involved with that exam lol.

i dont see myself getting any more of Odom's books as there too dull but good none the less.

i was thinking of renewing the cert around august or sept of 2012 still sometime to go but i've been reading some of the ccnp stuff so the CCNA exam this time around shouldnt be too hard. thanks i'll pick up a copy, wish it came in hard cover though but i'll get my copy none the less

I have you thought of doing a CCNP exam or another CCNA track mate?

that may be an option as well... but the CCNP is a daunting task. i'm going through Jeremy's old BSCI video right now actually and i'm setting up the OSPF stub and totally stubby area lab....

i already have 2 1841's and 2 2620xm's routers so maybe i'll take the jump.... but the CCNP is a whole new realm lol

Mate - we all feel like this going up to the next level. It is always a humbling experience, you think you know something and then you learn that you only know X%.

Go for the CCNP. Yes it's more in depth and obviously harder than the CCNA, but you get to split the topics up a little by focussing either on routing or switching, rather than a whole load of brand new concepts.

You'll do fine :)

Is the new 7th Edition CCNA book clearly separate for those taking the ICND1 & ICND2 or is rolled up into one just for those taking the CCNA?

Hi Tom,

Just to FYI that I read your book and watch your videos with additional material and It was really helpful for me. I just passed my CCNA :) last month. I am wondering If you have books material and videos for CCIE. I am deciding to go deeper now.:)

I do strong recommend to reviewing Lamme information, it is really helpful.

Cheers,

I am not skipping CCNP, but It seems that CCIE does not required to hold a CCNP. Based on your experiences, what do you think guys?

Thanks.

As you will be required to read most of the CCNP/CCIP books anyway the CCNP/CCIP could give you a good advantage in prep for the CCIE.

It is worth knowing the step up from CCNA to CCNP is not that bad and for most the CCNP fills in the gaps of knowledge from the CCNA, the CCIP then really brings your knowledge of BGP/MPLS/QOS (which are heavy weights in the CCIE exam) on very well. The gap from CCNP/CCIP is huge and most good CCNP engineers are humbled by the CCIE.

End of the day it is up to you and yes there are many paths to getting the CCIE.

Best of luck.

What's your experience with Cisco gear? Did you take the CCNA to learn Cisco setup/troubleshooting or simply because you never took it before but are well experienced with it?

CCIE is a huge step up from CCNA. The professional level exams allow you to go deeper into specific areas. Expert level exams are exactly that - one for the experts, and even they have a tough time passing the CCIE lab exam.

That said, there are no pre-requisites for CCIE; you don't even need a CCNA. If you are well experienced then you could go straight for it.
