I am studying for CCNA exam. I have 2611 routers and 2612. 2950 Switch and 1900.

I have 2 routers and 2 switches with one laptop. I have already connected my routers with a back to back cable and config ip addres, serial interface are all up on both routers.

I know i need straigt through to connect laptop to Switch and Crossover for Switch to Switch and straight through for switch to router..

My questions is this:

How can i implement my switch in this network? So that when i do show cdp neighbors, my switch will show up? Do i have to give my switch ip address?

How will i work with my router, if my laptop is plug into my switch? I am tried of switching console cable back all the time.

I have set telnet password but still not able to telnet error is

Destination unreachable; gateway or

host down

Please help

BigCCNA,

To telnet into your switch you definitely need to give it an IP address. You also need to make sure you run cdp enable on the switch.

Also as your lab begins to grow you may consider purchasing a 2509/2511 Cisco access server. This compliments any lab and allows you to reverse telnet to any of your routers/switches by simply typing the host name of the device that you wish to access.

Hope this helps!
