Dear Lammle & all Member!

I hope you all will fine. I got two scenarios can any body explain to me how both will work.

Scenario 1:

Look at the figure

Server

Switch

A B C

In the figure I have Switch with 4 ports, with one port server is connected and with the rest of 3 ports host (PC) are connected.

Now its LAN and communication will take place through MAC addresses because Switch is layer 2 device and we know that in LAN communication will be through MAC addresses.

In the above LAN there is no IP addresses used .now server have a database stored on it how the 3 host will access the database and can they communicate with server without IP addresses if they can then how the data transfer will take place in which format it will be.

So I mean to say that still we need IP addresses in such LAN or not.

Explain it please.

Scenario 2 :

In Lammle CCNA 6th edition in the complete network IP addressing only DHCP are created for Access point , Wireless Router 871w and R2 Wireless interface why we need DHCP for wireless LAN.

If we connect switch to routed interface through Ethernet cable on any router then will we need DHCP for client connecting to switch OR will the router assign IP addresses from the subnet Rang.
