I picked up a 2610xm so I could have something that would host 12.4T. It was advertised as having 2x 1DSU-T1 but when I got it, found it had 2x VWIC-1MFT-T1s and an ATM-AIM. From what I could understand after reading the Cisco site description of those cards I'll be able to use this if I ever choose to study VOIP but...how can interface this with a 2501 or a 3640? Would it make sense to get a cheap 1760 and move one of the VWICs to it?

That depend mate - are you going the voice track?
I bought a 1841 the other week and it had a VWIC2-1MFT-T1/E1 in, i am not going to do voice at any point soon, so i sold the VWIC2-1MFT-T1/E1 and bought me some more routers! :)

That's what I was thinking, too. I only paid 45.00 (and 20 s/h) for the 2610xm and initially thought to use the VWICs just as a means to connect with another router to pass data. I'm guessing that's doable with a properly wired RJ48 - but with my limited knowledge that's a huge assumption. I'm wondering if anyone can confirm whether that's possible.
If I can't make use of them now, from what I've seen on EBay, a set of VWIC-1MFT-T1/ATM-AIM goes for +300 (with just one of the VWICs) so I may try to sell them. My son put it in terms only an mmorpg playing 16 y/o could...it's like a level 1 warrior finding a level 30 sword. Do you sell it now or hold on to it waiting for the day you make lvl 30?

I've found the answer! It is yes and the below link shows the pinout for RJ-48 crossover (and others)

I've decided to hold on to the cards because I'm sure I'm going beyond CCNA...just not positive which direction - who knows...maybe all directions... and I don't relish the thought of having to buy this again if/when the need arises. The pack rat in me rears it's ugly head.
