I took the one on the Cisco site. Its only 18 questions and I still only got 13 out of 18 correct.
Back to the books!
Software applications are nowhere near as tricky. LOL

Hi guys,
I took the exam 640-801 in the end of October and failed with the score of 720. The exam pc was stuck on the second question which was a similation one and it took 20 minutes to fix the problem for the Vue administrator and then all my motivation had already gone anyway.. i couldn't do the second question coz of playing hide&seek with the console screen and getting frustrated.. and now I am gonna take the exam/exams in the end of Jan 08. I have just received the Deluxe Edition CCNA 5th v. for 640-802 but i wanna take 2 steps exam option. I wanna get first CCENT and then CCNA by getting the second exam but as far as i understand after reading the Mr.Lammle's review about the certification stuff, taking the two exams instead of one exam (640-802) is just wasting of time, money and energy. Do you think it isn't really making easier to take two steps exams instead of one? After getting the CCENT and/or CCNA, I wanna also get one of the Cisco account manager exams because i wanna work on sales side. Please give me some advice about this. Thanks.

seMra,
I personally don't like the two test method. Here's why...

1. It cost more
2. Chances are you'll fail one or both and have to retake, so that's even more money
3. The tests are not proven to be any easier then the one test method

However, with all that said, the two test method may work better for some people, which is why Cisco has the two test method avialable.

If you are studying for the two test method, you don't need to study EIGRP or OSPF, ACL's, Advance NAT or IPV6 in the first test (ICND1)...but you still need to know everything else...

So, this two test method does let you break up the topics a little bit....

BUT...the simulations and quesitons are still VERY hard...

You choose the method that is best for you.

Cheers!

I did 640-802 in one go and passed the first time with 920 points.
The strange thing is, I had no, as in zero, trust in my ability to pull it off. Test-exams didn't give me much faith either, having scored around the 65% mark, with 70% as the maximum.

All I can say is to study hard and follow every advice in Todd's book. When he says 'if you don't know x yet, that's ok, just refer back to chapter y', do that. Even if you are sure, just quickly refer back and be sure it's hard-coded in your brain.

First I learned the first 3 chapters until I could dream them. Then I did the same with chapters 4 and 5. After that, I read the other chapters somewhat superficial and returned to chapter 6 to take them down chapter by chapter, no, make that paragraph by paragraph.
The reason to do an initial integral superficial read of Ch.6-14 was to get an overview. It made it easier to place the topics in the bigger framework.

It took 2 months of fairly intense study (I spend the holidays like this: breakfast and my kids unwrapping their presents, book to the books, lunch, back to the books, dinner, back to the books) and having an old 800-series router (even with an IOS that was a bit too old for this exam) helped a lot, you need to learn what happens in the different modes (config, config-if etc).

I was sure I could never get all the info in my head, even when I finished the exam. When I saw it said pass, and the score, I was floored. I can only attribute it to methodical study and Todd's book is perfect for that. When doing the exam, things just flowed (and even at that point I wasn't convinced of passing).

Last tip: do a lot of repeating, especially for Ch.1-5. It may seem boring, but you'll have to do that. You'll have to be one with the routers and switches :D

I took and failed the 640-802 exam the other day. Scored a 775 and needed an 825 to pass. No doubt about it, the test is tough! I guess I didn't really think I would pass the first go around. I ran out of time with 2 questions to go. Hopefully I can work on the areas I had trouble with and give it another shot.

The test is hard, really hard.
Taking it and failing it is ok. Now you know what to really study.

Make sure you KNOW NAT/PAT, Access lists, IP Routing, etc...I guess I can just list every chapter in my book.

Study hard, hang in there and don't get discouraged.

Cheers!
