is there a general rule when choosing the clock rate command when configuring serial interfaces? on page 212 todd states that the isr routers automatically set the clock rate, but one still has to understand the command.
for example is their a difference setting the clock rate to 64000 as opposed to 2000000?

yes the clock rate is the physical sppeed of the serial line.. ( to make it in simple terms. )
that is why the NM-4a/s are rated at max 128kbps because the highest clockrate you can set is 128000.
a clock rate of 64000 will have the DCE side send data at 64kpbs, and 1500000
will have a speed of 1.5mpbs
in lab environments, you can set it to 64000 or whatever it doesnt matter in a lab.. but in productions, you wont set this value, it will be supplied be a CSU/DSU which will be the Service providers equipment. ( their side of the Demarc point)

Pretty sure the serials on my 2501 max out at 64000. Not sure what would happen if I tried to 'overclock' it, but the routers are so slow anyway, why bother...
