Hi,

Iam preparing on my own for CCNA. Iam using your CCNA study guide book(fifth edition) . Iam new to the networking. I have a a laptop and I have bought a 2621 router from ebay. My laptop has RJ45 socket and 2621 has also RJ45 socket. Could you please advice me what is the cable I have to use to connect laptop and the 2621 router.

I have searched for rollover cable on ebay. But all i found is the cable RJ45 to DB 9.

Please suggest me in this direction.

thank you.

Raghu.

In my chapter 1 I discuss the various ways of connecting to routers and switches.

You need a rolled cable to act as a console cable and then using out of band configuration like Hyperterm or other software.

You can use a cross over to go from your ethernet port of your pc to the ethernet port of the router, but the router has to be configured via the console first in order to do this.

Again, please see my chapter 1 and it explains everything on how to do this.

Cheers!

sir lammle,

can you just hook the rolled cable from the router console port right into the ethernet port of the laptop/host? or do you need an additional adapter (i.e. rj45->db9) ?

No, you cannot connect a console connection into the Ethernet port of a router or PC. You must go from a com port of the PC into the console port of the router using a rolled cable.
If your PC does not have a com port, you can buy a USB to com cable at any computer store.

I think B is the correct answer.Guess what? It make sence right? The question is not like In which situation we need to, in this case i think D is correct.A,C and E just do not make sence here
