    Default CCNA or CCNA wireless?

    CCNA or CCNA wireless?

Basically I am an wireless (mobile telephony) engineering student doing my MS in a US university. I like to continue my career in the wireless area?

Do I need to do CCNA before doing CCNA wireless or I can directly pursue CCNA wireless?

Which is more comprehensive regarding networking as well as more career oriented?

    Regards/
    Gopal

I would expect it depends on how much knowledge you already have in networking. Here is a quick checklist for the normal CCNA :

    - Can you log into a cisco router and change its hostname, banner, and IP address for the loopback address?
    - Can you troubleshoot why Serial 0/1 is showing as physically up, yet the line protocol is down?
    - Are you able to setup RIPv2 between a group of six routers and verify that machines at one side of the network can reach the other side?
    - Do you understand the commands required to setup ppp authentication on a connection between two routers.

If your able to already do all of these in the list, then your quite close to being able to get your CCNA. But consider that the CCNA long name is 'CCNA Switching and Routing', then it might not be that important in your wireless field.

If I was you, I would get a CCNA book such as Todd's and spend a few hours one night having a quick read through it. See it looks even remotely related to the course your doing. As for jumping straight into the wireless exam, you need a valid CCNA certificate for the exam. It shows this here :

Final point to make is that you can never have too many reasons for someone to employ you. AKA if you can point out that you have several certifications and a few qualifications, then it all helps at the end of the day. It shows a well rounded (perhaps a bit too round from sitting at a desk all day ha ha) person who can learn and adapt which is critical in all working conditions.

You need the CCNA before you can pass the CCNA Secuirty/wireless/Voice or Service Provider.
