well i've been studying for the ccna exam for close to a year now and i think i'm ready to write the exam. i set september as my target month.
i first read a 2001 ccna book from sybex that my brother had, then i took a 3 month course at a local college, where we configured routers for basic use, then purchased todd lammles CCNA 640-802 study guide, using packet tracer 5 and a 2610 router, and now recently have been studying with CBT Nuggets! i prefer just going for the single exam... anyone have any tips! |

Difficult to answer without breaking the Cisco agreement.
I don't know about the 802 exam as I passed ICND1 and ICND2 two mont later. My first goal was to study 1 year for the 802 (using excellent 6th Todd's book). I thought it would be more expensive to cumulate ICND1 and 2. But I realized that finally they were half price and it would be less risky to loose 147AU$ instead of 300AU$ in case of trouble as it was my first Cisco exam. Cannot say more.

Take your time, read each question and the answers.
Know your subnetting and VLSM etc...

hi ,I am a ccna beginner.I bought lammle's 6th ccna guide few days ago .I found that it is a perfect book . I explain the matters in a simple way that everyone can easily understand. I decide to read the book twice and take the exam. you said that you have studied ccna for about one year,I believe you have spent enough engery for it .so .....just take the exam to realize your first network dream. come on!

Do you have any hands-on experience, simulators etc? I'd really recommend getting some in before taking the test. The theory is fine to learn from books but you'll feel more comforatbel tackling the sim questions if you're familiar with the IOS.

hey guys thanks for all the advice. i think the combination of Sir Lammles study guide, CBT Nuggets, Cisco's Routers and Routing Basics book along with the great techs on this forum have really made a lot of the concepts clear.
hey i'm still a bit iffy on IPv6 and it took me a week to figure out why my switchport security wasnt working when i plugged in another PC into a switchport, had to generate some traffic and do a ping to see the port go into shutdown mode.... but hey i learned a lot so far.... but maybe i'll give myself another month or so |

Can you sign out any equipment they have? My company let me sign out a router since we have several in stock, and I grabbed every switch, hub and PIX firewall they scrapped. Tom |
