This whole chapter is written based around RFC1519. Which has been superseded by RFC4632.

So for example according to RFC1519 and Chapter 4
192.168.0.0/16 is an illegal network.

But this is no longer the case RFC4632 deprecated the whole class A/B/C system.

gw(config-if)#ip add 195.168.0.1 255.0.0.0
gw(config-if)#

the router does not complain, you can do the same on OSX, and I presume windows.

So I guess the real question is do the CCNA test writers follow RFC1519 or RFC4632 ?

A tricky one - i do not think the exam goes at deep as this (it did not when i took it). You will find subjects that say this cannot be done, when it can be done.

I think whether you can actually do that would depend on the version of IOS you are using, no?
