I got it working, but I still don't know what caused not to show up in the routing table the first time. here's what I did to correct the issue.

shut, no shut interface fa0/0on R1
removed and readded the ip address
removed rip network
confirmed no auto-summary, and RIP version 2 were running on every router.
clear ip route * on Router R1
and reloaded the router.

Now it looks fine...


R1#show ip route
