I have a question it may help others in the future as well if they have same issue.

In the book Mr Lammle uses 3 switches 3550, 3560, and maybe a 2950/60. I dont think for the CCNA the type of switches matter it was just demonstrating STP, and VLANs he uses the same topology in both chapters.

I ordered two more switches so I will soon have four (2) 2950 and (2) 3560 as I have posted above.

However, at this point until my order comes in I only have my two 2950 switches; I do however, have an 891W which is a wireless router with an 8 port switch 0-7 and then two wan ports one being a gigabyte port.

My question is this. can I use the switch on the router and just for the topology pretend my router is a switch? Will it work ok for that or will there be some forseen side affects that will mess up my lab values?

Just currious as i know even on some older routers some have switch ports in them so may be idea for future students as well if its something we can do when short a switch.

Ok so far its working but I did find out one thing:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/coll...78-519930.html

891w

Standard 802.1d Spanning Tree Protocol
• Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP)
• Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol Version 3 (L2TPv3)

Here is some other switch functions taken from the website I listed above:

• Auto Media Device In/Media Device Cross Over (MDI-MDX)
• 14 802.1Q VLANs
• MAC filtering
• 4-port 802.3af and Cisco compliant PoE
• Switched Port Analyzer (SPAN)
• Storm Control
• Smart ports
• Secure MAC address
• Internet Group Management Protocol Version 3 (IGMPv3) snooping
• 802.1x

So it seems to do alot of switching stuff but cannot run 802.1w on it for RSTP.

thanks!
