Exam Objective 1.2 mentions EUI-64.
I could not find anything in the book that taught me what this is so looked it up. On page 98 there is a diagram of an ethernet address using MAC-48. To explain to my future students what EUI-64 is I would find it useful to discuss a simple conversion from MAC-48 to EUI-64. But the diagram in the book places the I/G and G/L bits at the front (left side) of the OUI 24-bit block. RFC 4291 and 5342 indicate that the G/L or U bit (universal bit) is bit 7 reading from left to right of the OUI. Have I miss understood this or is the diagram incorrect. Thank you, Suresh Kumar, Computeach. Recently passed N+ and am now writing material for classroom teaching. |
